EOD vs Intraday Trailing Drawdown: The Rule That Decides If You Keep Your Account

PickMyFuturesProp · 2026-07-03

Drawdown type is the single most important rule in any prop firm account — more than price, more than the split. Here's how EOD trailing, intraday trailing, and static drawdown actually work, with real examples.

Ask ten funded traders what killed their first account and most won't say a bad trade — they'll describe a rule they didn't fully understand. Nine times out of ten, that rule is the trailing drawdown. It's the single most important line in any prop firm's spec sheet: more important than the price, the discount, or even the profit split. Here's how each type actually works.

The three drawdown types

A concrete example

Say you're on a 50K account with a $2,000 trailing drawdown, starting floor $48,000. You catch a runner and your equity peaks at $51,000 before you close the day at $50,200.

Same trades, same P&L, completely different survival odds. That's why this rule matters more than price.

Which firms use which

Among the firms I track: Tradeify, Lucid, and Goat (PRO) run EOD trailing everywhere — the forgiving setup. Alpha, FundedNext, and Futures Elite (Elite plan) are also EOD-based. The ones to read carefully are the switchers: My Funded Futures' Rapid plan and TradeDay's Quick Pay are EOD during the eval but intraday once funded, and Take Profit Trader's PRO stage is intraday until PRO+ reverts to EOD. OneUp and Elite Trader Funding's 1-Step are intraday throughout. Static floors exist at Elite Trader Funding (Static plan). Always check the funded column, not just the eval column — the eval rules are the marketing; the funded rules are your life.

How to choose for your style

If you scalp and bank profits quickly, intraday trailing barely touches you — take the cheaper account. If you hold trades, add to winners, or ride runners, intraday trailing is actively hostile to your style — pay up for EOD and sleep at night. If you want total predictability, find a static plan. And if you're new and unsure which trader you are yet: take EOD. It forgives the exact mistakes beginners make.
